Item Details
A fine superb quality early 18th-century George I period walnut bureau of compact proportions beautifully made and displaying excellent colour and patination. The fall-front opens to reveal a well-fitted interior with small drawers, pigeonholes and a central cupboard door all finished in richly figured walnut veneers. Below are four graduated drawers fitted with original brass handles and escutcheons.
The top and drawer fronts are quarter-veneered in highly figured burr walnut with herringbone and crossbanded borders standing on original bracket feet. The surface has developed a deep, warm patina that reflects its age and authenticity. The colour is breathtaking.
