Item Details
An elegant early 19th Century antique mahogany freestanding sofa table of refined form and superb craftsmanship. The beautifully figured top finished in a rich lustrous patina features twin drop leaves supported by original hinged brackets extending the width from 65cm (25.6 in) to 120cm (47.2 in).
Designed with both grace and practicality the frieze includes two drawers to the front with corresponding dummy drawers to the reverse, all fitted with their original brass ring handles. The table is supported by finely turned twin pedestal joined by a reeded stretcher and raised on elegant reeded sabre legs each terminating in brass caps and castors — a quintessential Regency detail that lends both poise and movement.
This exquisite table exemplifies the understated sophistication of the Regency period. Perfect as a sofa or writing table, it would sit beautifully in a drawing room, study, or entrance hall — blending seamlessly with both traditional and contemporary interiors.
