Item Details
A charming antique Victorian Staffordshire pottery flatback figure titled Highland Jessie. Beautifully modelled and hand painted, the figure depicts a Highland lady standing beside a seated Highland gentleman dressed in traditional Scottish costume. Rich colours, gilded highlights and decorative floral detail combine to create a wonderfully decorative display piece.
Figures such as this were produced in Staffordshire during the Victorian period and were traditionally displayed on mantelpieces, dressers and chimney breasts. Scottish themed figures were particularly popular during the 19th century following the revival of interest in Highland culture and remain highly sought after by collectors today.
The base retains its moulded title Highland Jessie, a desirable feature which adds character and collectability to the piece. The reverse displays the typical flatback construction associated with Staffordshire pottery figures of the period.
A delightful example of Victorian decorative pottery and an attractive addition to any Staffordshire collection.
