Item Details
These elegant chairs are a classic mid-Victorian interpretation of the balloon back chair, with beautifully shaped open oval backs formed from moulded mahogany. The lower section of each back is finished with restrained scroll detailing, giving the chairs a particularly graceful profile without being overly ornate.
The generously proportioned upholstered seats have gently shaped fronts and are raised on finely turned and tapering front legs, with swept sabre back legs. The mahogany has developed a lovely warm colour and patina, with the close-up photographs showing the attractive grain particularly well.
The seats are upholstered in a traditional cream patterned fabric with decorative braid edging. Their relatively simple open backs make these particularly useful dining chairs, giving them an elegant appearance around a table without visually overwhelming it.
