Item Details
A superb quality antique Victorian satinwood sewing table of exceptional elegance, beautifully proportioned and displaying exquisite craftsmanship throughout. This delightful piece combines the practicality of a fitted sewing table with the decorative appeal of a refined lamp or occasional table, making it a wonderfully versatile addition to any interior.
The beautifully figured satinwood top has a particularly attractive shaped outline, enhanced by delicate string inlay, a contrasting circular central panel and four decorative circular corner details. The rich golden tones and striking natural grain of the satinwood create a wonderfully warm and sophisticated appearance.
The hinged top opens to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with a removable circular tray, divided compartments and a central compartment with its own lift-off cover, displaying further beautifully figured timber. Beneath the tray is an additional concealed storage space, an ingenious and charming feature that demonstrates the exceptional attention to detail given to this piece.
The deep circular frieze is decorated with finely executed contrasting vertical inlay and retains its keyhole. The table stands on four elegant, slender turned and tapering legs, embellished with delicate linear inlay and united by an exceptionally attractive pierced X-shaped stretcher with a central circular detail. The combination of these graceful proportions, intricate inlay and finely executed construction gives the table a particularly distinguished appearance.
A truly charming and beautifully crafted example of late Victorian cabinetmaking, equally suited for use as an antique sewing table, lamp table or decorative occasional table. Its compact proportions make it ideal for a drawing room, bedroom or elegant sitting room, where its exceptional craftsmanship and wonderful satinwood figuring can be fully appreciated.
