The top is veneered in exceptionally well figured burr walnut displaying rich swirling grain patterns and deep warm tones throughout, all highlighted by a finely shaped scalloped edge. The table stands on an elegant carved tripod base with distinctive open lyre-form supports and shaped cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. The quality of the timber and craftsmanship is evident throughout, creating a piece that is both decorative and highly functional. Originally intended as a lamp or occasional table, pieces such as this were designed to bring both practicality and elegance to Victorian drawing rooms.
