Antique Set of 4 Victorian Carved Walnut Dining Chairs

A lovely set of four antique Victorian dining chairs crafted in walnut and dating to around 1860. These are particularly decorative examples, with beautifully shaped open backs, finely carved detailing and elegant cabriole front legs. Each chair has a sweeping shaped crest rail centred by a carved floral motif, with further pierced and carved decoration across the lower back rail. The flowing outline of the back continues into the shaped uprights, creating a very elegant silhouette typical of high-quality mid-Victorian furniture. The chairs stand on graceful cabriole front legs with carved detailing towards the feet, complemented by gently outswept rear legs. The walnut has developed a rich warm colour and attractive patina, which works particularly well against the lighter upholstered seats. The generously shaped seats have been upholstered in a neutral cream and beige patterned fabric, giving the chairs a fresh appearance while allowing the carved walnut frames to remain the main focus. A very pretty and highly usable set of Victorian dining chairs. Their decorative carved backs make them equally suitable around a dining table, dressing table or occasional table, while the neutral upholstery allows them to sit comfortably within both traditional and contemporary interiors. Condition Report In good antique condition with age-related marks, wear and minor imperfections consistent with their age and use. The walnut has a lovely colour and patina and the upholstery presents well.
