Item Details
A superb antique Regency mahogany open armchair of elegant proportions, raised on turned front legs with splayed rear supports.
The shaped top rail with reeded detail is supported by swept uprights and a finely turned central stretcher, giving the chair a light yet refined appearance. The arms are well shaped with attractive curves, supported by turned columns, a classic Regency feature.
The rich mahogany displays a warm colour with attractive grain throughout. The seat is upholstered in a later fabric, which presents well and is ready for use.
Chairs of this type were originally used in drawing rooms or at writing tables, offering both comfort and a more relaxed seating position compared to formal dining chairs. Today they are ideal as desk chairs, occasional chairs or bedroom seating.
A highly decorative and practical piece with elegant lines.
