Item Details
A fine antique Georgian mahogany letter holder of exceptional craftsmanship. Beautifully shaped and richly figured in striking flame mahogany veneers, the serpentine-fronted design with domed sides and delicate ebony line and satinwood inlay creates an elegant silhouette characteristic of high-quality eighteenth-century work.
To the front, the piece retains its original silver mounts including a shield-shaped cartouche engraved with the letter R, a charming personal detail that adds both provenance and distinction.
The hinged lid opens to reveal the original fitted interior with multiple divisions for letters, notes and correspondence. The interior retains its original red lining which is attractively worn with age. The inside of the lid features an inlaid compass-star motif, a refined Georgian flourish seen only on superior pieces.
A rare and highly decorative desk or hallway piece perfect for organising stationery and correspondence, or for adding an elegant period accent to any interior.
