Item Details
A decorative pair of antique giltwood convex wall mirrors made in the Regency style. Each mirror features an elegant pierced scrolled crest above a circular convex mirror plate set within a reeded frame, with a carved foliate apron below.
The frames are finely carved with scrolling acanthus ornament and retain a warm gilt finish which gives the mirrors a striking decorative presence. The convex plates are surrounded by radiating carved decoration, a design inspired by the fashionable girandole mirrors of the early nineteenth century.
Convex mirrors of this type were designed to reflect light and movement around a room and were traditionally placed in hallways, staircases or above console tables where their curved plates would brighten interior spaces.
An attractive decorative pair which work particularly well flanking a doorway, fireplace or on either side of a wall feature.
