Item Details
A superb antique Georgian mahogany bedside table of elegant and practical design, dating to the late 18th century. The piece features a beautifully shaped galleried tray top with pierced carrying handles, allowing it to function both as a surface for use and as a serving tray if required.
Below the top sits a pull-out slide, a feature originally designed to support a chamber pot, reflecting the way such pieces were used in Georgian homes prior to indoor plumbing. The lower section provides enclosed storage, now ideal for modern bedside or living use, and is finished with original brass hardware.
Raised on square tapering legs, the table has a refined and balanced appearance, with lovely rich mahogany colour and figuring throughout. The proportions are particularly pleasing, making it a highly versatile piece that works equally well as a bedside table, lamp table or occasional drinks stand.
These tables were an essential part of everyday life in the 18th century, offering discreet practicality while maintaining the elegance expected in a Georgian interior. Today they remain highly sought after for their functionality and understated design.
