Item Details
A superb antique English oval figured mahogany tilt top dining table with a beautifully grained top and excellent colour throughout. The quality of the timber is immediately evident with striking figured patterns across the surface.
The table stands on a well proportioned turned central column with four elegant reeded sabre legs terminating in original brass lion paw caps and castors, a classic Regency feature that adds both strength and movement.
The tilt top mechanism is a particularly useful and desirable feature. Originally designed to allow the table to be easily stored against a wall when not in use, it reflects how furniture of this period was made to be both practical and refined. This made them ideal for dining rooms where space and flexibility were important.
The oval shape comfortably seats six and creates a softer more sociable dining setting compared to rectangular tables. A timeless English piece that works equally well in traditional and modern interiors.
